Country Hamburger Steak

Recipe by BevCrockett

Any country folk have to have a good hamburger steak in their menu line-up.  This is a great recipe which my family absolutely loves.

As a quick note, as a quicker, easier recipe, you can also use frozen hamburger patties from your local butcher, season with Montreal Steak seasoning, fry with onions then add jar gravy.  Super quick alternative.  💕

Hamburger Steak

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp seasoned salt
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 T oil
  • 1 small sliced onion
  • 3 T flour
  • 1 1/2 cup beef broth

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Form into 6 – 8 balls and flatten into patties.
  3. Heat the oil in large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add sliced onions and patties.
  5. Fry the patties and onions in the oil until patties are nicely browned – about 4 minutes per side.
  6. Remove patties from the skillet, place and on a plate to keep warm.
  7. Sprinkle flour over the onions and drippings in the skillet.
  8. Stir in the flour with a fork, scraping bits of beef off the bottom as you stir.
  9. Gradually mix in the beef broth, seasoned with salt.
  10. Simmer and stir over medium – low heat for about 5 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  11. Turn heat to low, return patties to the gravy and cover, simmer for another 15 mintues.
  12. Serve hot.

Notes

The original recipe was from All Recipes.   I do double this.  You can also increase the onions if you prefer more.

I serve with egg noodles or mashed potatoes.
