An Unforgettable Encounter with a Red-tailed Hawk

As many of our friends know, we are avid bird lovers. Whether it’s watching songbirds at our feeders, photographing wildlife, or simply enjoying nature, birds have always held a special place in our hearts. My husband, in particular, has long been fascinated by hawks and other birds of prey.

During a recent visit to a local establishment, we had the opportunity to experience something truly special. A gentleman there had a beautiful Red-tailed Hawk, and to our delight, he was willing to share his knowledge and passion for these magnificent birds.

The highlight of the visit came when my husband was invited to hold the hawk. Seeing him interact with such a majestic creature was incredible. The experience offered a rare glimpse into the unique bond that can develop between a bird of prey and its handler. Up close, the hawk’s beauty was even more striking—her rich coloring, piercing eyes, and quiet confidence commanded attention and respect.

For someone who has admired hawks from a distance for so many years, this was a dream come true. It wasn’t just about holding a bird; it was about connecting with a remarkable animal and gaining a deeper appreciation for these incredible raptors.

Experiences like this remind us why we love birds so much. They inspire wonder, curiosity, and respect for the natural world. Meeting this beautiful Red-tailed Hawk was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our recent travels, and it’s a memory we’ll cherish for years to come.

Next on his bucket list is a Bald Eagle – such massive, beautiful birds. When traveling to and from our favorite places, we know spots the eagles visit. Quite often we actually bet – “there or not there?” And it’s about a 50/50 shot 🤣

What’s your favorite rare bird/prey/animal? Have you ever had an opportunity to hold one?

Thanks for stopping by – until next time, may your days be grace filled, your kitchen warm and your heart rooted right where you are. 🩶
