Creamed Peas

This was derived from an old recipe from my Mom, tweaked a bit.  💕

Creamed peas

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. package frozen peas
  • 3 T unsalted butter
  • 2 T all-pupose flour
  • 1/3 cup finely diced sweet onion
  • 2 cups half and half or light cream
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

Instructions

  1. In a medium sauce pan, melt butter over medium heat
  2. Add onions, cooking until translucent – about 5 minutes
  3. Add flour, stirring until absorbed
  4. Gradually whisk in half and half
  5. Bring to a gentle boil then add salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder
  6. Add peas, mixing until coated with sauce
  7. Cook over medium heat for 5 -7 minutes or just until peas are tender
  8. Stirr occassionally.
  9. Serve and enjoy.

Notes

For a quicker, easier side of peas, you can always use 1 can, 11 T butter,  T sugar, cornstarch and water to make a paste.  Basically bring peas, butter and sugar to a boil then stir in cornstarch mixture.(you’re welcome 😀)
