Salt, Sea & Small Businesses: Finding Faith and Community in Ocean City

There’s something about the ocean that draws us closer to God.

Maybe it’s the rhythm of the waves, the salty breeze, or the reminder that His creation is so much bigger than we are. Every time we’re in Ocean City, Maryland, we feel peace there — the kind that settles your soul and reminds you to slow down and simply breathe. Because that’s what people do once you cross that Bay Bridge. People live slower. They move slower. People are genuine.

While we aren’t technically “locals,” we like to think we are in spirit. Our entire family loves Ocean City. It has become a place filled with memories, faith, family, and restoration.

Scripture reminds us often of the beauty and power of water:

“Mightier than the waves of the sea is His love for you.”
— Psalm 93:4

And every time we walk the beach, we are reminded of God’s handiwork:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”
— Psalm 19:1

That’s one reason finding Salt & Co. felt so special to us.

Salt & Co. is a beautiful locally owned ladies boutique filled with clothing, jewelry, handbags, soaps, gifts, and even pocket crosses that serve as sweet reminders of faith throughout the day. But more than that, the store represents resilience, courage, and trusting God through hard seasons.

The owner — Aimee McClasin, (and her husband) a wonderful woman from our church — has an inspiring story of her own. After devastating flooding impacted her store in Ellicott City, Maryland, not once, but TWICE, she courageously uprooted her life, moved to Ocean City, and started fresh. That kind of faith and perseverance speaks deeply to us.

It also makes me think of Matthew 5:13:

“You are the salt of the earth.”

How fitting that a store called Salt & Co. reflects exactly that — bringing light, encouragement, beauty, and kindness into the community around it.

We love supporting her and her team, whether it’s purchasing gift cards for others, finding clothes and jewelry, or picking up soaps and thoughtful gifts. Supporting local businesses means supporting people’s stories, dreams, and families. And more importantly, she gives back to the community. Again and again and again.

And in a beach town like Ocean City, where the ocean constantly reminds us of God’s presence and peace, supporting local feels even more meaningful.

The beach has always been a place where we feel connected to God — where worries quiet down and gratitude rises up. Maybe that’s why Ocean City keeps calling us back.

Not because we’re locals.

But because it feels a little like home.

What local business has touched your heart or become part of your family’s story? We’d love to hear about the people and places that make your community feel like home.

Next time you’re in Ocean City, take a moment to shop small, encourage a local business owner, and remember — every purchase is a chance to support someone’s dream, ministry, and fresh start.

Thanks for stopping by – until next time, may your days be grace filled, your kitchen warm and your heart rooted right where you are. 🩶
