Celebrating My Husband’s 54th Birthday in Ocean City, Maryland

This past weekend, we celebrated my husband’s 54th birthday, and I couldn’t think of a better place to spend it than Ocean City, Maryland. I even took the day off because birthdays should be all about the birthday guy, right? So for one day, every decision centered around what Ronnie wanted to do, where he wanted to eat, and how he wanted to celebrate.

Our day started with breakfast at the Crabcake Factory Bayside. Surprisingly, we had never been there before, even though we’ve eaten at the Crabcake Factory on 120th Street many, many times. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by some of the happiest ladies, instantly making us feel welcome. We were seated quickly, and the view was absolutely beautiful.

We definitely got lucky with the weather—sunny skies, a gentle breeze, and not a drop of rain. Perfect birthday weather!

Ronnie is a huge Bloody Mary fan and had heard plenty about the Bayside location’s version. Let me tell you—whoa! That Bloody Mary was practically a meal all by itself. According to him, it was every bit as good as everyone says.

For breakfast, we ordered the Crab Skillet and the Crab Eggs Benedict, and neither disappointed. Everything was delicious and packed with flavor.

One thing that really stood out was the hospitality. After our meal, the staff offered to take us on a tour of the restaurant. We explored the downstairs seating, outdoor dining areas, and all the different spaces throughout the property. There truly are seats everywhere, and every spot offers something unique. We will definitely be back!

Since we both love live music, we decided to spend the evening at Saltwater 75. Neither of us had been there before, and it turned out to be another fantastic choice. The atmosphere was incredible. The music was on point, the views were stunning, and the overall vibe was exactly what we were looking for.

We even decided to embrace our inner tourists and had our pictures taken while we were there! Sometimes it’s easy to forget to get in front of the camera, but I’m so glad we did. The beautiful backdrop, the waterfront views, and the special occasion made it the perfect place to capture a few memories.

Then came the sunset.

If you’ve ever watched the sun set over the bay in Ocean City, you know how magical it can be. The sunset at Saltwater 75 was simply the icing on the cake.

We ordered the cauliflower as an appetizer (one of my favs) and for dinner, I chose the rockfish while Ronnie went with the Chicken Chesapeake. Both meals were absolutely delicious.

Speaking of cake, Ronnie’s favorite is German Chocolate Cake, so I decided to make one completely from scratch. We’re big believers in homemade over boxed mixes whenever possible, and I have to say, it turned out great! I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was to make, and it made the celebration feel even more special.

As if the day couldn’t get any better, I even found a lucky penny while we were out and about. What a perfect little “add-on” birthday present! If you know me, you know I had to pick it up. It felt like a tiny sign that the day was meant to be special.

And speaking of being ourselves, we’re pretty frugal and don’t usually buy birthday cards. Instead, we have a tradition of finding the perfect card, reading every word, laughing at the funny ones, and then taking a picture of the winner to share. It saves a few dollars and still lets us enjoy the sentiment—and honestly, it’s become one of those little traditions that makes us smile every year.

When I look back on this birthday, it’s definitely one for the books. It was a day dedicated entirely to celebrating Ronnie—enjoying great food, supporting local businesses, listening to live music, soaking in beautiful views, and spending time together in our favorite resort town.

Sometimes the best celebrations aren’t about extravagant plans. They’re about slowing down, enjoying the simple things, and making memories with the people you love.
