DIY Blackened Seasoning Blend

Recipe by Bev Crockett

When you are all about making things yourself vs. buying, you figure out how to make a yummy blackened seasoning blend.  We used on Salmon.

Blackened Salmon

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 T Paprika (regular or smoked)
  • 1 T garlic powder
  • 1 T onion powder
  • 1 – 2 tsp salt (to taste)
  • 3/4 – 1 T cayenne pepper (adjust for heat)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients – mix well
  2. Dry the fish – Pat the salmon fillets completely dry with a paper towel so the seasoning sticks.
  3. Coat with oil or butter – brush both sides of the salmon with melted butter or high-smoke-oil like avocado oil.
  4. Apply the rub – generously press the spice blend into the flesh (and skin if desired) for a thick, flavorful crust
  5. Bake in cast iron skillet.
  6. Enjoy!

Notes

Pairs well with rice and a veggie – sliced avocado adds flavor, too.

Thanks for stopping by – until next time, may your days be grace filled, your kitchen warm and your heart rooted right where you are. 🩶
