DIY Blackened Seasoning Blend
When you are all about making things yourself vs. buying, you figure out how to make a yummy blackened seasoning blend. We used on Salmon.

Ingredients
Scale
- 2 T Paprika (regular or smoked)
- 1 T garlic powder
- 1 T onion powder
- 1 – 2 tsp salt (to taste)
- 3/4 – 1 T cayenne pepper (adjust for heat)
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients – mix well
- Dry the fish – Pat the salmon fillets completely dry with a paper towel so the seasoning sticks.
- Coat with oil or butter – brush both sides of the salmon with melted butter or high-smoke-oil like avocado oil.
- Apply the rub – generously press the spice blend into the flesh (and skin if desired) for a thick, flavorful crust
- Bake in cast iron skillet.
- Enjoy!
Notes
Pairs well with rice and a veggie – sliced avocado adds flavor, too.
